What we collect

This site has no user accounts, comments, newsletter sign-up or contact form. We collect only:

  • Server logs. When you load a page, our web server records your IP address, browser type, the page requested, the referring page and the time. We use these logs to run the site securely and fix errors, and keep them for a limited period.
  • Usage statistics. We use Matomo, an open-source analytics tool on a server we control (analytics.safeandnotsorry.com), to count visits and see which pages are read. Matomo sets first-party cookies (_pk_id, up to 13 months; _pk_ses, 30 minutes). Data is not shared with advertising networks. You can block these cookies in your browser settings.
  • Search. Search terms you enter are processed only to show results; they may appear in the server logs and statistics.

Hosting and service providers

The site runs on a server rented from Hetzner. Domain name resolution is provided by Cloudflare. These providers process data only to deliver the site.

Our articles link to other websites, including partner sites. Once you follow a link, that site’s own privacy policy applies. Some articles may embed content from other sites (for example videos or maps); that content behaves as if you visited the other site directly.

We process this data based on our legitimate interest in operating, securing and improving the site. Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, to object to or restrict processing, and to complain to a data protection authority. This includes rights under the EU/UK GDPR and Costa Rica’s Law No. 8968 on the protection of personal data. To exercise these rights, write to legal@costaricastarterkit.com.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
